UC Santa Cruz Dominates 2023 Highly Cited Researchers List
Congratulations to the 18 scientists and engineers from University of California, Santa Cruz who have earned a spot on the prestigious 2023 Highly Cited Researchers list, released this week by Clarivate.
In a notable recognition of scholarly achievement, 18 scientists and engineers from UC Santa Cruz have earned a spot on the 2023 Highly Cited Researchers list, recently unveiled by Clarivate.
This prestigious list, released this month, acknowledges researchers globally whose papers rank in the top 1% by citations for their respective fields and year of publication, highlighting their substantial influence in the research community.
Among the distinguished UC Santa Cruz faculty honored are Jonathan Fortney, professor of astronomy and astrophysics, and Garth Illingworth, professor emeritus of astronomy and astrophysics; Benedict Paten, associate professor of biomolecular engineering; and David Haussler, professor of biomolecular engineering and director of the UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute; Shaowei Chen and Yat Li, both professors of chemistry and biochemistry.
The list also includes Mark Diekhans, technical director of the Genomics Institute’s Computational Genomics Laboratory, and James Kent, creator and director of the UC Santa Cruz Genome Browser, along with nine other members of the Genome Browser Team: Galt Barber, Hiram Clawson, Maximilian Haeussler, Angie Hinrichs, Robert Kuhn, Brian T. Lee, Brian Raney, Kate Rosenbloom, and Ann Zweig.
The 2023 Highly Cited Researchers list boasts 7,125 influential researchers hailing from diverse fields and representing 67 nations. Reflecting a comprehensive and globally informed approach, the list is meticulously crafted by bibliometric specialists from the Institute for Scientific INformation at Clarivate.
Within this elite group of researchers, a total of 3,793 are honored for their performance within the 21 ESsential Science Indicators (ESI) fields, while an additional 3,332 are lauded for their cross-disciplinary impact, highlighting their multifaceted contributions.
