Code For Congress is Back!
Unleash your inner coder and join us for an exhilarating opportunity! The Santa Cruz County Office of Education presents the FREE & virtual 8-week 'Code for Congress' Series, where middle and high school students across Santa Cruz County can transform their app ideas into reality. With expert local mentors guiding the way, participants will craft their app designs and even have the chance to compete in the prestigious Congressional App Challenge.
The program is open to all middle and high school students in Santa Cruz County. In 8 weeks, your child will learn the computer science skills they need to know in order to create an app. At the end of the program, students have the opportunity to submit their app to the Congressional App Challenge. The goal of the Congressional App Challenge is to inspire and promote student innovation, creativity, and encourage engagement in computer science, STEM, and coding through competition.
Last year’s winning app in California's 19th congressional district (the district which stretches from south San Jose, Santa Cruz, Monterey County, and northern San Luis Obispo County) was created by a seventh-grade student from Pacific Collegiate School in Santa Cruz named Toma. Toma’s app “Pill Alarm,” alerts and reminds users when they need to take their medication.
About the Congressional App Challenge
Officially launched by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, the Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide effort that allows students to compete against their peers by creating an application or “app,” for desktop/PC, web, tablet, mobile, or other devices.
