On October 23, 2024 Comcast announced a $45,000 contribution to Cabrillo College to establish the Comcast Journalism Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support aspiring journalists at Cabrillo College by providing financial assistance to students who participate in local internships.

The Comcast Journalism Scholarship is open to Cabrillo College students enrolled in any Journalism course and who have completed or are currently enrolled in Journalism 23, the advanced writing class. Students must also be actively involved in a local media internship, nonprofit, or marketing internship and submit a portfolio of their published works.

Scholarship awards range from $600 to $2,400 and are designed to help students gain practical experience and enhance their career prospects in the field of journalism. "These scholarships are invaluable to our students' development," said Matt Wetstein, Cabrillo College President. "They allow students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations, develop professional skills, and gain valuable insights into the world of journalism."
