Join The Computer Science Playground Community Nights – Volunteers Needed!

The Santa Cruz County Office of Education along with Pajaro Valley Unified School District are thrilled to announce this year’s Computer Science Education Week, featuring our CS Playground Community Nights! These engaging events invite families, students, and community members to dive into the exciting world of computer science, and we need your help to make them a success.

What’s CS Playground All About?

Our CS Playground events are family-friendly, hands-on nights filled with computer science fun for everyone. Each evening will offer live demonstrations, interactive stations, and activities that showcase the amazing potential of CS in a welcoming, engaging way. Each attendee will receive a map to guide them through a series of age-appropriate stations, with activities designed to spark curiosity and exploration at every turn.

Event Dates and Locations

Watsonville High School – Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm

Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History (MAH) – Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm

These events are geared for TK-12 students, families, and community members of all backgrounds. No prior experience with computer science is needed—just a willingness to dive in!

Our volunteers are the heartbeat of the CS Playground experience, guiding visitors through activities, sharing insights, and ensuring everyone has a fantastic experience. Whether you’re a seasoned computer science enthusiast or simply excited to be part of something fun and educational, your support can make a real impact.

Volunteer Roles

Here’s how you can be part of the magic:

Activity Facilitator: Lead a station with prepared activities, or bring your own expertise and propose a unique station.

Floating Assistance: Assist families and students, answer questions, and provide extra help at busy stations.

Set-Up & Clean-Up: Lend a hand to get everything ready before the event and help wrap up once it’s over.

Shifts for Each Event

We’ll work with your schedule! Choose a shift that fits best:

Set-Up: 3:30–4:30 pm

Floating Assistance: 4:30–5:30 pm or 5:30–6:30 pm

Activity Facilitation: 4:15–6:45 pm

Clean-Up: 6:30–7:00 pm
