Verdagy, a leading green hydrogen company based in Moss Landing, recently celebrated the opening of a new electrolyzer manufacturing facility in Newark, California. This Silicon Valley factory is the first of its kind in the United States to be supported by the Department of Energy (DOE).

The new facility which was first announced in 2023 and received a $39.6M grant by the DOE in March 2024 covers over 100,000 square feet and has the capacity to produce several gigawatts of electrolyzers. These devices are used to produce green hydrogen, a clean energy source that can be used to power various industries such as transportation.

Verdagy's manufacturing strategy focuses on reducing the cost of electrolyzer stacks through advanced automation and a streamlined design. By partnering with ATI, a supplier of metal alloys in the U.S., Verdagy has developed a new manufacturing process called "Coils-to-Cells". This process involves using metal coils to produce finished electrolyzer cells with minimal manual handling.

According to the press release, the "Coils-to-Cells" system aligns with the DOE's goal of promoting domestic production of electrolyzers and metals. This new facility not only contributes to the advancement of green hydrogen technology but also creates new clean tech jobs in the local community.

Verdagy's high-volume production of electrolyzers is expected to begin in early 2025. This is a significant milestone in the United States' efforts to develop a sustainable and clean energy future with green hydrogen at the forefront.
