Logan Parsons, to be featured at NextSpace for the First Friday Art Tour September 5th from 4-7PM!
Logan was born and raised in Pacific Grove, California. She received her bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Western Washington University and the following year obtained her graduate certificate in science illustration from the University of California Extension, Santa Cruz. Upon graduation she completed internships at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, PA and at Scientific American magazine in New York City. Since that formative time in her illustration career, Logan has gone on to hone her skills as an educator as well, working as a Interpretive Park Ranger in Yosemite, and a high school art teacher at York School in Monterey, Ca. Nature has always been the primary influence in Logan’s art; capturing the character of its many odd, funny, and beautiful organisms. She also holds a deep appreciation for designs and compositions (especially within the sciences) that successfully convey information while at the same time having an aesthetic appeal. Logan now lives and works as a freelance grant writer and illustrator in Santa Cruz with her husband and two sons. She is a passionate gardener, cook, houseplant enthusiast, and podcast listener.

100+ Women Who Care meets four times a year in March, June, September and December at the Museum of Art and History (MAH)’s Garden Room, located at 705 Front Street, Santa Cruz. For 2025, our dates are: September 10 and December 10. Come down at 5:30 and grab a bite to eat and a beverage at Abbott Square, then head to the MAH’s Garden Room at 6:30 for our one hour meeting.
When 100 people come together to donate $100 each, we raise $10,000 – profoundly impacting nonprofits in our community.
Members nominate local nonprofits. Winners are required to earmark funds for Santa Cruz County residents. Become a member now.3 organizations are selected at random to be considered. They have 5 minutes to tell the group about their cause and how the funds will be used and answer any questions. The group votes and everyone donates $100 to the winning organization. You can donate by check or online.

Fiona Ma, CPA is California’s 34th State Treasurer. First elected in 2018 with more votes than any treasurer in state history and re-elected in 2022, she is the first woman of color and the first woman Certified Public Accountant (CPA) elected to the position.
As the state’s primary banker, Treasurer Ma oversees an investment portfolio averaging over $200 billion and manages more than $3 trillion in banking transactions annually. She provides oversight and transparency for the state’s investments, surplus funds, and bond sales, serving over 2,200 local governments.
Her office helps finance key infrastructure projects that support housing, transportation, recycling, public facilities, and more—impacting the everyday lives of Californians across the state.

Wallace J. Nichols Paddle Out
At 10 AM PST on Wednesday, July 23, WORLD BLUE MIND DAY, a paddle out from Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz will celebrate the life of marine scientist, author, and Blue Mind innovator Wallace J Nichols, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 56. Paddlers are encouraged to show up on the sand by 9:45 AM. The first 900 paddlers will receive a blue marble, which J frequently held up to eye level to represent our blue planet, for the event. Friends and family will also be on the Team O’Neill catamaran and the Chardonnay sailboat, and a program will be conducted. Those not able to get into the water can view the event from the west side of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf as well as along West Cliff Drive. It will be an official Get Into Your Sanctuary activity in Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and there will be proclamations from elected officials, and a cleanup will be conducted at Cowell Beach immediately after.

Topic: Pivoting Business Model in Face of Change
Change is inevitable—but transformation is a choice. In this candid and empowering Women in Business Lunch session, Morgan Lukina shares her journey of navigating the challenges and opportunities that come with pivoting a business model during times of uncertainty.
Through honest reflection and real-world experience, Morgan will explore the moment she knew her business needed a shift, the steps she took to reimagine her direction, and how she balanced risk with stability.
Speaker: Morgan Lukina, Managing Broker at David Lyng Real Estate
Morgan joined her family’s company in 2010 and is the Managing Broker and CEO of David Lyng Real Estate. Outside of David Lyng Real Estate, she served on the Board of Directors for the Santa Cruz County Association of Realtors (SCCAR) from 2012 to 2021 and served as the President of the Association in 2020. She also served on the Events and Planning Committee, the Local Candidate Recommendation Committee (LCRC), and as Treasurer for 3 years. Morgan was selected as the 2017 REALTOR of the Year by SCCAR for her contributions to the Association. Additionally, Morgan served as a State Director with the California Association of REALTORS (CAR) from 2016 to 2021 and enjoyed being involved with the industry at a higher level and understanding legislative and federal issues impacting the real estate industry.
Prior to joining David Lyng Real Estate, Morgan graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business and worked in commercial real estate at Prudential Mortgage Capital Company and Prudential Real Estate Investors. She also spent time working as an asset manager and assisted in the overseeing, leasing, and operations of 32 commercial properties on the West Coast.
Morgan served on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County from 2018 - 2020 and has also enjoyed being involved with the Santa Cruz Chapter of United Way. She lives in Santa Cruz with her husband, Greg Lukina, who is also a licensed Realtor, and together they have two sons.
During our event, we will also be supporting United Way of Santa Cruz's Stuff the Bus Campaign - attendees are encouraged to bring needed school supplies, make a monetary donation or bring a gift card. Click here for the list of supplies. Stuff the Bus – an initiative that collects new backpacks and schools supplies for Santa Cruz County students currently experiencing homelessness and other financial hardships. This is a great family-encouraged volunteer event where the community helps to ensure all students start the first day of school with the supplies they need to succeed. The school bus then delivers the backpacks to the COE and they implement the distribution of the backpacks to families in need. This year's Stuff The Bus aims to fill over 2,500 backpacks with new school supplies for each student in time for the upcoming school year!

Run through 300 foot tall, 1500 year-old Coastal Redwoods, lush stream canyons, open meadows, pine and oak forests, and high dry chaparral-covered ridges. The Half Marathon, 30K, Marathon, and 50K events cross the San Lorenzo River (shown above) multiple times!

The Capitola Twilight Concerts
Bring chairs, jackets, a picnic supper, and the family to enjoy free live music and the sunset! Concerts begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and take place at the Esplanade bandstand. Visit local restaurants and pick up dinner to go and enjoy a picnic at the beach! Suggested to bring low back chairs or picnic blanket for seating.
