AI News: AI Regulations Begin
Europe took a step toward AI regulations last week with a European Parliament vote on the AI Act, a proposed law that would establish requirements for AI makers and users based on risk levels.
The draft law bans "unacceptable risk" AI systems, like facial recognition, and outlines "high-risk" AI in sectors like toys, cars, and law enforcement.
High-risk AI systems will be assessed before market entry and throughout their lifecycle.
A final version of the EU law is expected by year's end. A US Senate subcommittee held a hearing on AI and human rights, including testimonies from AI misuse victims.
