Celebrate Hydrogen Week
Hydrogen Day is October 8 each year, and this year, since it falls on a Sunday, we're celebrating hydrogen for an entire week, from today through October 11.
Hydrogen is a clean and versatile fuel that can be used to power our homes, businesses, and transportation. It is also essential to many industrial and chemical processes.
Here are some key facts about hydrogen in America today:
We already produce and use more than 10 million metric tons of hydrogen each year.
Hydrogen is used in a wide range of applications, including petroleum refining, fertilizer production, food processing, steel manufacturing, cosmetics, and transportation.
We are transitioning quickly to clean hydrogen, which is produced with low or zero emissions. Our national goal is to produce 10 MMT per year of clean hydrogen by 2023 and 50 MMT per year by 2050.
There are many ways to celebrate Hydrogen Week:
Walk or run 1.008 miles or kilometers (the atomic weight of hydrogen).
Share a photo or video about hydrogen on social media using the hashtags #H2DayWalk or #H2DayRun.

The federal government is making unprecedented investments in clean hydrogen. The Hydrogen Interagency Task Force (HIT) is a historic collaboration across 11 federal agencies to advance a whole-of-government approach to executing the national strategy. DOE's Hydrogen Program is a proud member of that task force.
