All Roads Lead to Santa Cruz
Welcome Waygate Technologies
Daniel Redmon and his family recently joined the Santa Cruz community. He is managing the west coast office for Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes business. In layman’s terms, Waygate provides CT X-Ray equipment and services for companies that require non-destructive testing of materials/products ranging from lithium batteries to aircraft wings and propellors. We cannot divulge the names of these companies, but if you had only one guess, you are likely to guess correctly the names of the world's largest technology providers of smartphones, computers, laptops, watches, and electric aircraft on the planet. Their west coast office is located near SJC (Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport). Daniel and his family, however, choose Santa Cruz for their lifestyle and community.
The Journey to Santa Cruz
Dan was a military brat who frequently moved during his childhood and lived in twelve states by the time he was fourteen years old. Dan spent his high school years skateboarding around Indiana University’s sprawling campus while doing 50-50’s and kickflips to impress a local redhead which he then married in 2003 and relocated with to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dan graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in economics, had two young sons with his wife, and decided to join the Marine Corps as an Officer. At age 25, he led Marines in combat as an Infantry Platoon Commander in Afghanistan, and soon after he was selected into Force Reconnaissance. Dan was known for his resourcefulness and physical fitness, but also for his surprising and distinctive surfer dialect, which earned him the call sign “The Dude.” Dan spent ten years in the active-duty Marine Corps, deployed five times, from combat operations to training foreign military branches, and even protected President Obama on a mission in Myanmar.
In 2017, he transitioned out of his rewarding time in active-duty military service and went back into the civilian world to spend much-needed time with his family. Dan worked for General Electric (GE)’s Rotational Leadership Program where he excelled and caught the attention of executives that saw his leadership capabilities. This opportunity enabled him to start a business in their GE Inspection Technologies division in the Bay Area. Today,
As the Inspection Services Leader for North America, Dan created an in-house service that attracted clients who needed access to Waygate’s cutting-edge equipment for one-time projects, such as failure analysis or production inspection where there may not be capital to purchase machines. He was recently promoted to the position of Account Executive for Northern California, shifting his focus from operations to sales and business development.
When he’s not hard at work, Dan can be found surfing the waves in Santa Cruz, volunteering his time as an instructor and board member for the Veteran Surf Alliance (VSA), and spending time with his wife Michele, a marketing executive for a local weather technology company called Weather Flow, and two sons who attend Cabrillo College and Soquel High School.
