MERGE4 Donates Portion of Proceeds to Help Local Businesses Recover from Flood and Storm Damage
PRESS RELEASE FROM MERGE4. January 20, 2023.
Santa Cruz-based sock company, MERGE4, is donating 50% of sales of their Santa Cruz surf spot socks to the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County’s disaster relief fund. Funds will go towards helping local businesses recover from flood and storm damage during the atmospheric river that hit Santa Cruz in early 2023.
Extreme rain, wind and powerful waves hit the coast of Santa Cruz, California in January 2023, causing over $55 million in damages. From Seacliff State Beach and Rio Del Mar, to Capitola and Soquel Villages, businesses are now faced with hefty costs for rebuilding and repairing after the storms.
“Our headquarters are based in Soquel, which saw unprecedented flooding, power outages and mudslides,” said MERGE4 CEO and Founder, Cindi Busenhart, “We have retailers and family and friends’ businesses throughout Santa Cruz County that are hurting from the damage these storms have caused, and we’re happy to contribute in any way we can.”
Through March 31, 2023, 50% of proceeds from all MERGE4 Santa Cruz surf spot socks will be donated to the CFSCC’s Disaster Fund. Featuring art by Slidertown, MERGE4’s collection of surf spot socks includes iconic locations like Capitola, The Point, and The Harbor – all of which were affected by this year’s storms.
The Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County’s Disaster Fund is currently supporting residents and businesses impacted by the atmospheric river and flooding of January 2023. Contributions to this fund will be disbursed as grants to support trusted local nonprofit organizations working on the front lines of disaster response, recovery, and rebuilding efforts. Thanks to the generosity of a local family, donations to the Disaster Fund are currently being matched dollar for dollar up to $75,000.
