Ambient & Nichicon Form Strategic Energy Harvesting Power Solutions Partnership for Sustainable Electronics
Ambient Photonics and Nichicon Corporation are partnering to co-develop sustainable energy solutions for connected devices that eliminate the need for single-use batteries.
By designing a system that brings together Ambient’s low light solar PV cells that generate 3-times more power than traditional solar cells with Nichicon’s SLB series of lithium titanate oxide (LTO) batteries that fast charge like capacitors, the companies are able to offer electronics manufacturers new power substation potential that delivers greater sustainability without sacrificing performance.
“Nichicon’s SLB series is particularly well suited to energy harvesting applications in IoT and other connected devices,” says Bates Marshall, CEO and Co-founder of Ambient Photonics. “Their long life, high number of charge/discharge cycles and low charging rate offer advanced energy storage stability and reliability that’s essential when creating a new generation of indoor solar-powered devices.”
“We are aligning with partners who not only share our commitment to driving the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources, but also have the revolutionary technology required to accelerate that transition,” said Craig Anderson, President at Nichicon (America) Corporation. “The industry-leading power density of Ambient’s indoor solar cells are just such a catalyst. They are the ideal partner to help us optimize the future of power management for connected devices.”
