The H2FLY Team Reflects on a Phenomenally Successful Year
As the 2023 year draws to an end H2FLY, a Joby Aviation subsidiary, reflects on some of it’s major accomplishments.
In January, the Hydrogen Aviation Center was announced, a purpose-built facility specializing in developing and testing hydrogen-electric powertrain systems at Stuttgart Airport. Serving as the focal point for an entire emission-free ecosystem, it aims to contribute to Germany's position as a sustainable aviation leader.
In April, a world-first was achieved as the team successfully tested the aircraft integrated liquid hydrogen storage system during an on-ground coupling test in collaboration with Air Liquide at its Campus Technologies Grenoble in Sassenage, France.
During the Paris Airshow in June, the team unveiled "H2F-175," a new generation of fuel cell system for commercial aircraft. The development program aims to provide a series of fuel cell systems that can be combined and upscaled to power hydrogen-electric aircraft in the megawatt-class range, accommodating up to 80 passengers.
Following a long summer, the H2FLY team and its partners took to the skies above Slovenia with the world's first piloted flight of a liquid hydrogen-powered electric aircraft. With the global media as witnesses, the team showcased the feasibility of liquid hydrogen and laid the foundation for long-range, zero-emission flights.
As 2024 rapidly approaches, the audience is eagerly anticipated to witness the remarkable work that the H2FLY team has in store.
