Ambient Opens Factory in Scotts Valley, CA
Fab 1 / Day 1
April 21, 2023, marked an exciting day for Ambient Photonics as they opened their brand new factory Fab 1, located in Scotts Valley, California. The factory is dedicated to the production of Ambient Photonics' proprietary technology which provides energy-efficient, high-quality energy solutions for various applications.
This state-of-the-art 43,000-square foot Fab 1 facility is now one of the largest indoor energy harvesting technology factories in the world and will ship tens of millions of patented low-light PV cells per year. Attendees were able to view the first PV cells off the production line that very day.
The PV cells produced at Fab 1 have the potential to revolutionize the energy harvesting industry. These cells generate three times more energy than traditional PV cells of the same size, thanks to their breakthrough energy density. These small, durable, and low-cost PV cells could render disposable batteries obsolete in devices across multiple industries, ushering in a new era in connected device form, function, and sustainability. Ambient’s PV cells are so “green” that when they are depleted of energy in 10 years, they can be ground up and deposited in your home garden.
The opening of Fab 1 represents a significant investment in our county and California's economy and job market. The factory is equipped with state-of-the-art robotic machinery that requires only 6 persons to run multiple shifts.
Santa Cruz County is quickly becoming a US-hub for planetary health companies including Ambient Photonics, Joby Aviation, Zero Motorcycles, Future Motion / OneWheel, Santa Cruz Bikes, Cruz Foam, SupplyShift, Climatize, and many more.
Ambient Photonics join 30 other companies at the county’s largest job fair on May 25: Launchpad 2023.
