Scotts Valley based startup, CIONIC, a leading neurotechnology company developing bionic clothing to support people with mobility issues, has been recognized for its groundbreaking Neural Sleeve in Fast Company's prestigious Innovation by Design Awards for 2024. Cionic’s Neural Sleeve is a legging embedded with sensors and electrodes that stimulate muscles and improve mobility.

The Neural Sleeve secured the top spot in the Impact category and was also a finalist in Accessible Design. This recognition highlights the transformative power of CIONIC's technology in empowering individuals with mobility limitations to achieve greater freedom and independence.

Fast Company's Innovation by Design Awards, now in its 13th year, celebrates designers and businesses tackling the most critical challenges of our time. The competition attracts a diverse pool of participants, from established blue-chip companies to emerging startups and talented young designers such as Patreon, Canva’s Magic Studio, Da Vinci Eye, and more.

"The recognition from Fast Company for both Accessible Design and Impact is a real testament to the transformative power of CIONIC's technology to provide meaningful, measurable benefits for people living with disabilities ranging from multiple sclerosis and post-stroke, to cerebral palsy and other neurological diagnoses,” said CIONIC Founder and CEO, Jeremiah Robison. "We hear from our customers every day about their improvements in walking stability and endurance, as well as increased independence with the Neural Sleeve."

“This year’s honorees show how essential creativity is to the process of innovation,” said Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “It’s inspiring to see how some of the best minds across industries are using design to shape our world for the better.”

A panel of renowned designers, industry leaders from innovative companies, and Fast Company's editorial team judged the submissions based on key innovation factors: functionality, originality, aesthetics, sustainability, user experience, cultural impact, and business impact.

The Cionic Neural Sleeve stands out as the first bionic clothing solution capable of real-time sensing, analysis, and augmentation for users. Designed in collaboration with the acclaimed Yves Béhar and his award-winning design firm fuseproject, the Neural Sleeve has been transforming the lives of people with various neurological conditions since its commercial launch in early 2023. These conditions include multiple sclerosis, strokes, cerebral palsy, and spinal cord injuries.
