Cruz Foam Achieves Major Milestone
Santa Cruz-based Cruz Foam proudly announced today a peer-reviewed cradle-to-grave life cycle assessment was conducted to evaluate their product environmental impact, covering nine different environmental indicators. The assessment included the entire life cycle of Cruz Foam, from the extraction and manufacturing of raw ingredients to the disposal of the foam. The assessment evaluated three different disposal scenarios, ranging from best case to worst case:
100% disposal to compost
50% disposal to compost and 50% disposal to landfill
100% disposal to landfill
The process flow diagram of the evaluated life cycle is illustrated below.
According to the report
Cruz Foam is made by following nature and dissolved by nature. We’ve created our natural foams to match or exceed conventional petroleum based protective and insulative packaging foams on a technical performance level, and to beat it on an environmental level. Our products are continuously and rigorously tested in both lab and real-world settings to ensure that we are using the most responsible practices from sourcing to disposal.
Conclusion
This LCA is imperative in Cruz Foam's sustainability practices and allows them to further mitigate their already low environmental footprint
Life Cycle Assessment
LCA stands for Life Cycle Assessment. It is a methodology used to evaluate the environmental impacts of a product or process over its entire life cycle, from raw material extraction and manufacturing to use and disposal. The aim of LCA is to quantify the environmental burdens associated with the life cycle of a product or process and identify opportunities for reducing those burdens. LCA can be used to inform decision-making in areas such as product design, process optimization, and policy development related to environmental management.
