Miniature 30-second COVID Detection by SanguineDx
SanguineDx is developing miniaturized rapid detection (<1 minute) COVID antigen detection devices.
We are also developing a miniaturized solid-state whole blood monitoring device to measure coagulation and clot degradation. This is essential in numerous surgical procedures and point of care (POC) anticoagulation therapy monitoring. These data are essential to prevent serious injury or death of the patient. In addition, numerous COVID patients experience coagulopathies that must be diagnosed and treated.
Both product lines utilize the same underlying technology. The differences are in the detection chemistry used in the single use disposable test cartridges and data analysis and readout software. Current products for both pathogen detection and blood coagulation monitoring are expensive, unwieldy, and time consuming. In addition, pathogen detection times are long. This limits these products largely to clinical laboratory settings with trained technicians.
Preliminary data and experience over 6 years of development demonstrate improved sample handling and ease of testing as well as greater sensitivity than current offerings. A US patent (#10,696,123) was issued in May 2020 for the technology. Follow on patents are in preparation. Miniaturization of the hardware reduces COGs significantly in comparison with other devices, facilitates rapid manufacturing, and reduces device footprint in the clinical space. In direct conversations with the FDA these devices are eligible for emergency use authorization (EUA). We anticipate having market ready products by end of 2020.
SanguineDx is an early stage start up located at the Startup Sandbox in Santa Cruz, CA. Our principals are experienced medical device, implant, and pharmaceutical professionals each with at least 30 years experience and with multiple products on the market. We are partnered with experienced clinical collaborators and advisors at Stanford Medical Center, Palo Alto Veteran’s Administration Hospital, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Our software and hardware engineering and manufacturing partner is Phoenix Deventures in Morgan Hill, CA.
