PVUSD Announces the Addition of Three New Cabinet-Level Leaders
Watsonville, CA – Dr. Heather Contreras, Superintendent of Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD), is enhancing the district's leadership structure with a research-based approach that supports a cohesive Preschool to 12th grade system. At the June 26 meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the appointments of Jenny Im as Chief Business Officer, Angelica Renteria as Interim Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and Dr. Ivan Alcaraz as Executive Director of Student Support Services.
Jenny Im, Chief Business Officer
Ms. Jenny Im steps into the role of Chief Business Officer with extensive experience in finance, particularly in school finance. Since April 2023, she has served as Director of Fiscal Services for PVUSD. Her career began at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, and she has also worked with the Sonoma County Office of Education and Petaluma City Schools. Ms. Im's expertise spans various school district functions, including accounting, payroll, budgeting, and auditing.
"I look forward to continuing to serve the Pajaro Valley Unified School District school community in my new role," said Ms. Im. "We are at an exciting time in education in California with a state-wide focus on socio-emotional wellbeing, Universal Transitional Kindergarten, Universal Meals, and the continued evolution of the Expanded Learning program, among other initiatives." She also highlighted local opportunities such as the Community Schools Partnership Program grant and the upcoming November bond measure to modernize aging facilities. PVUSD welcomes Ms. Im to her new role.
Angelica Renteria, Interim Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources
Ms. Angelica Renteria, who has dedicated her career to serving students since 1985, is the new Interim Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. She began as an Infant Childcare Aide in PVUSD and has held numerous roles, including Infant Toddler Teacher, Family Childcare Home Coordinator, Compliance Coordinator, and most recently, Director of Migrant and Seasonal Head Start since 2014.
"I am highly motivated to continue to support the vision of the PVUSD leadership with the implementation of strong systems that will benefit staff and our student population," said Ms. Renteria. She holds a Masters Degree in Human Development with a specialization in Leadership and Education & Human Services from Pacific Oaks College and various other educational credentials. PVUSD is excited to welcome Ms. Renteria to her new role.
Dr. Ivan Alcaraz, Executive Director of Student Support Services
Dr. Ivan Alcaraz, a dedicated educator and local resident of Watsonville, will serve as the new Executive Director of Student Support Services. Dr. Alcaraz has been with PVUSD since 2013, starting as an Intervention Counselor before becoming an Assistant Principal at Watsonville High School, Principal of Rolling Hills Middle School, and most recently, Director of Student Services.
"I'm excited to continue to serve my community in this new capacity," expressed Dr. Alcaraz. "This new role will bring coherence to our district and align departments to better serve our students." Dr. Alcaraz holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and various degrees in education and business management. PVUSD is proud to welcome this accomplished educator to his new administrative role.
