After months of teasing their mountain biking startup on social media, Bay Area riders Nic Bean and Michael Sikand unveiled RECON: the future of MTB shopping.

ReconMTB.com is a new shopping platform offering the industry’s most robust rewards program, curated product selection, and frictionless shopping experience.

Riders buying their MTB products on RECON automatically receive 3% cashback as store credit on every purchase and get 1 entry for every $1 they spend to win a new dream bike every month.

While RECON currently specializes in parts and accessories and does not yet sell complete bikes, the co-founders have hinted they’re in discussions with several major brands to offer them as soon as April.

Bean and Sikand are Bay Area natives who grew up between Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley. They met in middle school where they bonded over their love for bikes but went down separate career paths after graduating high school.

Bean became a professional enduro rider, eventually founding his own UCI EDR team, Theory Racing, home to reigning U21 Enduro World Cup Champion Bailey Christie. Sikand attended the University of Michigan, where he launched a media startup that was acquired by Morning Brew in 2023.

While RECON’s online store is news to all, the brand has been making waves in the MTB community since August, amassing 7M+ monthly views on Instagram and 13K subscribers on its popular email newsletter. Loic Bruni, Greg Minaar, and Ronan Dunne are just a few of the riders who have collaborated with RECON on video content.

Currently, RECON products are exclusively available to U.S. customers, though international riders can browse merchandise selections online.
