About Second Harvest

The Second Harvest Food Bank is a part of the nationwide network of food banks and is one of the oldest food banks in California. Since its establishment, it has played a pivotal role in alleviating hunger and improving lives in Santa Cruz County.

The central goal of the Second Harvest Food Bank is straightforward yet profound: to end hunger. They believe in a future where every individual can access nutritious meals, and children can grow up strong and healthy. The organization aims to harness the power of community to not only provide immediate relief to those in need but also create long-lasting solutions to combat food insecurity.

Programs and Initiatives

  • Food Distribution: With the help of a vast network of volunteers and partner agencies, the Food Bank distributes millions of pounds of food annually. They ensure that the food reaches the hands of those who need it the most, be it families, seniors, or children.

  • Nutrition Programs: Understanding that merely providing food isn’t enough, Second Harvest also focuses on the quality of the meals. Their nutrition programs aim to educate the community about healthy eating habits and the importance of a balanced diet.

  • Community Engagement: Through various events, drives, and outreach programs, the organization consistently engages with the community. Whether it's a holiday food drive or a summer feeding program, the community's support is integral to their mission.

Thanks to Second Harvest, countless residents of Santa Cruz County have been shielded from the devastating impacts of hunger. Children can focus on their studies, parents can work without the stress of where their next meal will come from, and seniors can live their golden years without the fear of food scarcity.
