Celebrate Public Works Week with ‘Stronger Together’ Selfie Contest
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Today Santa Cruz Mayor Donna Meyers proclaimed the week of May 16 to 22 as National Public Works week encouraging recognition of the contributions that public works professionals make in protecting health, safety and quality of life. The community can celebrate this year’s “Stronger Together” national theme by entering a selfie photo contest with $1500 in prizes that benefit downtown retailers and help local spending.
The Public Works Week "Stronger Together" theme is reflected over the last year in the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and CZU Lightning Complex Fire on the Santa Cruz community. Through these crises, City of Santa Cruz Public Works services continued across five divisions: Resource Recovery, Wastewater System, Engineering, Operations, and Traffic Engineering/ Parking.
The City’s “Stronger Together Selfie Contest” provides a fun and easy way for community members to acknowledge Public Works dedicated service while prizes will benefit Santa Cruz retailers in Downtown Dollars and parking that helps local spending. There are five first-place prizes of Downtown Dollars ($100 each); 10 second-place prizes of a ParkCard (value $50 each); and 25 third-place prizes of a Wharf Parking Pass (value $20 each.)
From May 15 to 23, participants may submit one to five selfie photos that relate to one or more of the five Public Works divisions. Contest details are available at cityofsantacruz.com/publicworks and facebook.com/cityofsantacruzpublicworks.
