William Wiseman and Alba Forns, co-founders of the Santa Cruz based startup, Climatize, have been nominated as Young Global Changers by the Global Solutions Initiative and were selected as 1 of the 10 projects out of 550 applicants to pitch their company at the World Policy Forum for the Global Solutions Summit, held in Berlin, Germany.
The Global Solutions Initiative (GSI) is a collaborative enterprise comprised of a network of think tanks aimed at being the steppingstone to the G/T20 and G/T7 Summits. The GSI provides research-based policy advice to governments to tackle the global challenges of G20 and G7, generate proposals for aligning economic, social, and political activities to address human needs in thriving societies and leads the movement of economic, political, social, and environmental recoupling.
The Young Global Changers program, by the Global Solutions Initiative, identifies, connects, and empowers young people worldwide who actively pursue change in their communities with the aim to boost their impact.
This year’s theme for the summit has been “Listen to the world: Promoting social well-being within planetary boundaries”. One of the key words of the event was the term “recoupling” which stands for connecting economic progress with social and environmental wellbeing.
Climatize supports recoupling by enabling people to invest in clean energy projects from as little as their spare change. They change the climate narrative from sacrifice to opportunity allowing everyone to benefit from the energy transition. By carefully selecting the projects they invest in, the Climatize Team ensures a positive impact for both the environment and the community, creating local jobs, lowering power costs, and building wealth by focusing on underserved communities. People, planet, and profit are closer than ever before.
During the World Policy Forum, Alba had the chance to pitch Climatize and network with inspiring people in the climate space. She shared the stage with world renowned panellists such as the Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, Deputy Secretary General United Nations (UN) Amina J. Mohammed, the Economists Mariana Mazzucato and Jeffrey Sachs and the President of the Global Solutions Initiative Dennis J.Snower, amongst other prominent figures.
Some of the key takeaways from the congress were the importance of collective action as a response to global problems and the need for an inclusive and systemic sustainable transformation. Clean energy investments need to grow substantially always ensuring the green transition is both effective and fair.
Alba used this opportunity to connect and build friendships with the other Young Global Changers coming from all over the globe. They all share a common goal: making this world a better place.
