Santa Cruz Accelerates #14: Veteran Surf Alliance

Santa Cruz Works is excited to share some of the applicants who have applied to our Santa Cruz Accelerates Program. We will be featuring a handful of startups each week!

Veteran Surf Alliance joined together for a paddle out held in honor of Chad Peyton, Army veteran member.

Name of your startup: Veteran Surf Alliance

A snapshot of the problem your startup will solve to make the world a better place: Veteran Surf Alliance is a Santa Cruz community-based California nonprofit organization that teaches, coaches, and mentors Veterans to surf and be respected members of their communities. 

We accomplish this through routine surf meetups, annual events, a surf coaching program, and access to surfboards and other vital equipment to keep veterans in the water.

Before picture prior to the Memorial Day Paddle out at Capitola Beach with participants and volunteers. White jersey's were the veterans getting a 'learn to surf' training session prior to the paddle out for everyone.

Our Vision: To smooth the transition between military service and civilian living through surfing. We want veterans to find the same type of camaraderie they had while serving in the military with members of their community.

We feel that ocean therapy is real and positively affects the mental and physical wellness of our veterans. Assisting them in routinely surfing through instruction, equipment, and a group to surf with tears down the common surf barriers for veterans and places them into a positive environment.
