After many rewarding years as Executive Director of Santa Cruz Works, as well as 38 years of a tech career, I am preparing to retire this June. While I’m stepping back, I’m not disappearing—my passion for fostering our vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem and supporting our community remains steadfast.

About the Opportunity
Ready to shape the future of Santa Cruz's thriving tech ecosystem? Santa Cruz Works is seeking a dynamic Executive Director who excels at building powerful networks and driving sustainable growth. Leading our 15-year-old nonprofit into its next phase, you'll connect our 11,000+ members with opportunities, resources, and each other to strengthen Santa Cruz's innovation economy.

Successfully launched and grown multiple accelerator cohorts

Celebrated the 10th anniversary of CruzHacks
What You'll Do
Networking (25% of your time)
Cultivate and maintain relationships with key corporate partners, investors, and community leaders.
Connect entrepreneurs with potential investors, mentors, and strategic partners.
Build bridges between startups, established companies, and educational institutions.
Revenue Generation (25% of your time)
Drive partnership and sponsorship revenue through relationship-building and value creation.
Identify and secure new revenue opportunities through grants, programs, and events.
Community Leadership (30% of your time)
Serve as the face and connector of Santa Cruz's tech and entrepreneurial ecosystem
Lead signature events that bring together innovators, investors, and industry leaders
Guide startups through our accelerator program, leveraging your network for their benefit
Create opportunities for meaningful connections within our community
Write engaging content that highlights community success stories and opportunities
Operational Excellence (20% of your time)
Lead a talented team dedicated to our mission
Manage our financial health and sustainability
Coordinate accelerator cohorts and programming
Oversee day-to-day operations and communications
Maintain and enhance our online presence
Ensures board members are engaged in executing fiduciary, strategic, and generative thinking.
What You'll Bring
Essential Qualities
Proven ability to build and leverage professional networks for organizational growth
Track record of generating revenue through partnerships, sponsorships, or fundraising
Natural connector who enjoys bringing people together and creating valuable introductions
Experience growing organizations through relationship-building
Strong understanding of startup ecosystem dynamics
Financial acumen and nonprofit management experience
Nice to Have
Established relationships in the Bay Area tech and venture capital community
Experience with accelerator or incubator programs
A resident of Santa Cruz county
Background in tech, startups, or venture capital
Grant writing experience
Previous leadership role in a membership organization
